ABSTRACT

In the televising of actual events as they take place in reality, television is being used in its most basic form. The producer operates from a mobile control-room, parked sometimes hundreds of yards from the location where the event is to take place. Perhaps more than any other quality, a television outside broadcast man must have a solid news sense to combine with any artistic sense that he may use in his productions. The Choir Screen would be crammed to capacity with the finest orchestra in Great Britain. The camera over the West Door was fitted with a British-made zoom lens by means of which the angle could be increased or decreased at the ratio of five-to-one from the original starting angle. As usual, there were the last-minute rumours common to all great occasions. Throughout the service, the then Head of Religious Broadcasting’s helpful prompting was invaluable.
