ABSTRACT

This chapter helps to set the stage for our analysis of the new world order that managers are facing in the world of hybrid/remote work. It is important to remember that business theories, business models, and business processes only work in context. They are highly dependent on the conditions in the business environment. This chapter seeks to identify some of the key factors that have changed, or are changing, to allow the reader to assess how they might affect the functioning of their organizations. Technology is certainly a factor; however, many of the human factors such as changes in the workforce makeup are just as important and, indeed, possibly more important.

In addition, we will introduce the MAAD (Managing at a Distance) framework which will help managers to identify some of the key factors, and provide a structure see how some of these key factors may interact with each other.
