ABSTRACT

An office is a tool or a resource, and just like any other tool or resource it can be used well or poorly. So, it is important to understand why we have an office, what purpose it serves, when it should be used, and when there may be better alternatives. There may be tasks or business processes that an office can facilitate, and there may be others that would be detrimentally affected by being subjected to it. This chapter helps managers to identify some of the factors that need to be considered when deciding when to require presence and when to allow for remote work.
