ABSTRACT

This chapter reconsiders the mechanism of the ‘talking cure’ from a neuropsychoanalytic point of view. The reconsideration arises from revisions in Freudian drive theory, as well as the theory of repression, defence, transference and working through. The empirical findings that underpin these formulations are not presented in this chapter. Rather it aims at a simple and condensed presentation of the major conclusions and recommendations to clinicians.
