ABSTRACT

As the COVID-19 pandemic began to impact the nation at the end of February 2020 and into March 2020, universities extended spring breaks, transitioned to fully online classes, and encouraged faculty and students to stay home. Public schools and daycares closed; mayors and governors issued states of emergency, stay-at-home orders, or shelter-in-place orders. The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically changed the typical way of life for most individuals in the United States. Persistent professional inequities and stigmas faced by females in higher education continue to be well-documented in research studies. The review process for the journal issue was unlike any we have experienced as scholars. It was gentle, supportive, and affirming. Reviews were returned with sometimes long emails, explaining that a delayed review was due to a death in the family or due to the seeming impossibilities of the daily COVID-19 grind.
