ABSTRACT

Canada, with territory approaching ten million square kilometres, is the second largest country in the world. Three-quarters of its 24 million people live in urban centres and the majority of the population lives in southern Canada in a strip 4,000 kilometres long and 200-300 kilometres deep. The density of population of the country as a whole is 2 per square kilometre as compared with 231 per square kilometre in Great Britain. The country is a confederation of ten provinces, each with its own provincial government, and two territories which enjoy some degree of local autonomy.
