ABSTRACT
An early motto of the pioneers of geriatric medicine was that ‘The best is not good enough for our patients’. Today the opportunity to establish a service with totally new resources falls to few, but all have the chance to develop some parts of their service. The developments undertaken will depend largely upon the facilities inherited, the availability of finance and the support of local management committees. This chapter concentrates on the development of the ward facilities within the geriatric service.
