ABSTRACT

In this chapter only items of equipment which are genuinely considered necessary to geriatric departments are discussed, but many of these items should of course be present in orthopaedic and general medical wards, where so many of the elderly and particularly the elderly handicapped are cared for. We are making suggestions on items of equipment on a 30-bed rather than a 24-bed ward complex. We think this is more realistic, although the latter is much more satisfactory from the nursing angle (DHSS, 1980). 1
