ABSTRACT

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology has been around for decades and is still going strong today. It has been gaining attention in healthcare lately due to its contribution to help improve patient safety, increase operational efficiency, and enhance the effectiveness of clinical processes. This chapter will provide a comprehensive overview of RFID technology, from its inception during World War II to present-day applications in the healthcare industry. We will discuss the different types of RFID tags, readers, and antennas, as well as how RFID is used for tracking, tracing, and monitoring assets, inventory, and people and preventing loss in hospitals. In this chapter, we will give a comprehensive overview of RFID technology and how it is being used in the healthcare industry.
