ABSTRACT

This contribution is the fruit of a decade of research in the African context, a place where environmental forces are singular, complex and heterogeneous. Having observed and examined in depth the management practices and tools of the international companies (MNFs and SMEs) that are developing there, our aim is to offer a state of the art of international management in the African context, with a view to putting into perspective the issues, challenges and opportunities for research and management in this emerging context. Analysis of the selected empirical investigations and observation of current mutations in Africa carried out lead to the suggestion of four main areas of research that require attention from researchers in international management in the African context: institutional, socio-cultural, ecological and technological. This framework is the avenues of reflection opening up to renewed managerial opportunities.
