ABSTRACT

At present, there are almost 200 million students in the world, twice as many as there was a little more than ten years ago. Because of this, the internationalization of higher education has become an increasing issue for many institutions. One way to address this matter is by setting up International Branch Campuses (IBCs), which has been on the rise for the past two decades. From 2012 to 2017, the creation of IBCs grew by 26%. France is the third-largest exporter of IBCs, yet little research exists from a French higher education perspective. The purpose of this chapter is to explore how French business schools perceive International Branch Campuses and why they choose to internationalize. This exploratory study is based on seven interviews with six French business schools. The findings suggest isomorphic pressures to internationalize and the importance of resource management.
