ABSTRACT

This book’s concluding chapter focuses on the future of teacher education and development by discussing the essential role of preparing teachers with the knowledge and skills to engage in their professional roles and, more specifically, as aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 if we aspire to ensure inclusive and equitable education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. We argue that teachers are at the core of this effort and that preparing them to engage in inquiry and action on their own and their pupils’ learning increases the promotion of sustainable development lifestyles, human rights, gender equity, and a culture of peace, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and diverse cultures contribution to sustainable, equitable education systems.
