ABSTRACT

Climate-related health outcomes are affecting populations across Southeast Asia and Pacific Island Countries and Territories (the Indo-Pacific region). While climate and health has been an area of concern in the region for decades, progress to address climate-related health impacts remains slow. An integrated, holistic approach is needed to drive progress. This chapter discusses how climate-resilient development (CRD) as a framework can be used to optimise health outcomes in the context of a changing climate. CRD integrates emissions reduction (mitigation), adaptation, and sustainable development strategies, taking a holistic approach to address existing vulnerability and protecting against future climate-related exposures. Using mitigation, adaptation, and sustainable development examples from countries across the region, this chapter considers how CRD can be operationalised to drive better health outcomes in the Indo-Pacific region.
