ABSTRACT
This paper describes an evaluation of long-stay accommodation for old people commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Security. In the summer of 1983 the first of three NHS nursing homes set up by DHSS in collaboration with three health authorities was opened in Chapeltown, Sheffield. Homes in Cosham, Portsmouth and Fleetwood admitted their first residents in the summer of 1984.
