ABSTRACT

Short-term funding from Government financed programmes is being taken up by those seeking to provide a creative response to an ageing population. The issues this raises are not being explored within any broader framework of policies for older people, nor are these issues being placed on the agendas of those responsible for the funding programmes. In the meantime, organisations and groups are desperate for resources that will allow them to respond to the requirements of the ageing population. It is understandable that they will continue to adapt themselves and their activities to give the most creative response possible to the funding programmes in order to attract funds, even if the funding programmes were not originally tailored for such purposes. This paper comments on the difficulties and dilemmas facing such organisations and draws out some wider issues.
