ABSTRACT

The elderly in Turkey present a growing section of a growing society. Within the country there can be observed marked inter provincial variation in the “age” structure, while historically the impact of the creation and development of the republic willhave affected the lives of Turkey’s ‘new elderly’ at many different points in their own lives. Against this background of geographical variety and historical discontinuity, there can be seen emerging in recent years a policy of increasing state provisions for the elderly aimed at securing some degree of economic and social well being for this section of society.
