ABSTRACT

This chapter offers an analysis of the major themes that have emerged from the professional learning narratives generated by teachers about their experiences on a masters-level Lesson Study module. Some of the main themes discussed in detail include the practical significance of core concepts for addressing problems experienced in classrooms or schools; finding time to reflect and plan collaboratively; the importance of having a shared language for talking about teaching and learning; teachers’ awareness of ‘tacit beliefs’ that shape practice but are rarely called into question and changing conceptions of pupils’ capabilities as learners.
