ABSTRACT

The purpose of this excursus is to ruminate on the interaction of sociology and theology in the works of Peter Berger. Congressional speculation is always a risky business, however, especially when the putative intercourse involves religion and science, and its supposed chamber is the mind of Peter Berger. Discerning such activity is difficult enough in an academic brothel, where the house publicizes its intent and participants are prone to full disclosure. In this case, however, the house purports to be, if not a purist’s cloister, at least the handmaiden of chastity - in the business of protecting the virtue of its inhabitants. The practical question, then, is how does one ruminate on an affair which, if it takes place at all, does so behind closed doors?
