ABSTRACT
It is argued that an understanding of those values which are associated with the final stages of life for any individual needs to encompass the attitudes and values of all those people whose presence is deemed crucial. The thesis is advanced that this terminal stage – and the term is used loosely – has characteristics which distinguish it from any other period in the life-cycle and, hence, needs to be examined in a way which reveals its distinctive nature.
