ABSTRACT

This chapter explores some aspects of social work with elderly people. Olive Stevenson, in her chapter, has already described the concepts and the experiences with which much of social work with old people is concerned. The management of dependency is a leit motif of social work with this group of clients, involving the social worker in managing his/her own feelings as well as those of the dependent person and of the person(s) providing direct care, and this is reflected in the content of this chapter.
