ABSTRACT

This chapter explores key issues concerning internationalisation of business education. Though Indian business schools are historically characterised by significant international influences, they have also been strongly rooted in the national context. This prompts us to examine imperatives for internationalisation in a nuanced way considering multiple factors. Often, global trends, bolstered by institutional structures that are not globally representative, may come in conflict with local priorities in many regions or countries. This has resulted in responses by business schools that have often brought forth further complexities. This chapter examines these complexities and highlights issues that could be considered by business schools as they formulate future strategies involving internationalisation.
