Introduction

Part IV examines the gendered lived experiences of the ideological constructions described in Part III. The lived experience is a channel through which ideologies are imposed by regimes and interpreted by individuals. In the everyday, the regulation of bodies often became the site of gendered power negotiation. The negotiation of the intimate was invasive, but in asserting autonomy over their own bodies and actions, women claimed agency.
