ABSTRACT
During the last four years the world has been surprised by the disintegration of the USSR and the former unified state is now disrupted by constant inter-ethnic conflicts in different parts of the country which have the potential to transform themselves into international wars. The situation developing in the former USSR is not unique. The same tendencies – that is the disintegration followed by inter-ethnic conflicts – can also be observed in former Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia.
