ABSTRACT
This book, under the appropriate title of An Enlarged Europe: Regions in Competition?, encompasses the twin challenges for future regional development in Europe. The political and economic geography of Europe is changing, as the European Union expands its boundaries to include Austria, Finland and Sweden and resumes a closer association with a Central and Eastern European region engaged in radical restructuring. Within the European Union, regions are engaged in both greater competition and increased cooperation as EU integration intensifies.
