ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the regional dimensions of recent patterns of economic adjustment in the Republic of Ireland. Following a brief review of both the EC and domestic macro-economic contexts there follows an assessment at the regional level of recent demographic and labour force trends. The remaining sections consider the ways in which approaches to regional development in Ireland have developed with particular attention to some recent initiatives.
