ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the much neglected, yet crucial topic of evaluating schemes and initiatives that aim to deliver wider benefits than just conventional economic outputs – projects such as those frequently termed ‘community economic development’ (CED). The goals of these projects commonly include promoting social justice, fostering grassroots engagement in local civic life, and tackling social and financial exclusion.
