ABSTRACT
Together, the Westphalian and Eastphalian dialects constitute the southern segment of the West Low German speech area. In their phonology and morphology they are the most conservative of the Low German dialects, having retained many features, such as number distinction in the past tense of strong verbs, which have been lost in other areas.
