ABSTRACT
In this chapter Gwynedd Lloyd gives space to a group of young girls to express their views about getting into trouble at school. They describe the common events which get them into ‘bother’ with teachers. They suggest that many of their problems lie in shortcomings in the way teachers relate to them. Teachers, they argue, should be able to keep control, but should also allow them to be themselves and have a laugh. Through her discussions with them, Gwynedd Lloyd rejects an image of these girls as passive victims of teacher expectations and decisions.
