ABSTRACT
Over the years we have become ever more aware that children's experience of school life is very diverse, and a growing body of educational research has been concerned with exploring that experience. Ethnography has been the main research approach employed for this. It is well-suited to the task, as a result of its open-ended orientation and concern with detailed investigation of diverse perspectives and of the complexities of human social interaction.
