THE BARTERING OF PERFORMANCE THAT Barba describes is Utopian in the non-hierarchical value it places on local culture. These exchanges were radical in the deeper level of contact that they facilitated, in contrast to the status quo, and to the extent that the company used them as stepping stones to more long-lasting change.
