Because role-taking is the central process in interactionist social psychology, it deserves detailed analysis in this volume. Professor Turner explores certain continuities in Meadian role theory through further refinement and clarification of the concept “role-taking.” In pursuit of this goal, he reveals some of the weaknesses in the concept of social role as it has come to be traditionally employed.
