The Reception of Candidates book
It is important that candidates on arrival should be "unbuttoned" gradually into the "selection" atmosphere: the "training" atmosphere of the military unit must be completely banished. The object of the country house is, of course, to facilitate this "selection" atmosphere in those who are being conditioned to behave regimentally in barracks. If suitably inducted and de-tensed at this stage, both candidates and observers will enjoy the proceedings and the board's work will be correspondingly easier and better.
