ABSTRACT

Advertising is a potent force symbolised by the presence of ‘globetrotting global brands'. Their images have been established by successful advertisements across the world's markets. The international advertising industry' is a success story growing into a multi-billion dollar global industry at the dawn of the twenty-first century. In the year 2000 global advertising expenditure was estimated at US $339 billion compared to US $303 billion for 1999 (Financial Times 1999a), and further growth was projected. The industry has created countless images and phrases to sell millions of products around the globe, from remote villages to towns and cities.
