ABSTRACT

A mad car chase, wheels spinning over a deep abyss just off the road, a shoot-out in a scenic abandoned southern-French village, a flippant exchange between the protagonists to underscore that despite the evident danger this was all in a day’s fun. Typical scenes from my all-time favourite action series – The Persuaders! Originally set to be titled The Friendly Persuaders, the series was produced in 1971 at ATV/ITV’s Elstree studios (then the most modern in Britain). TV baron Lew Grade’s strategy of pre-selling the series to the American network ABC furnished an unprecedentedly high production budget, allowing for breathtaking location shoots throughout Europe, as well as the hiring of two big-name stars – Tony Curtis and Roger Moore – for the lead roles.
