ABSTRACT

Dramatic, swinging jazz writing and improvisation in the modern idiom has all but taken over the many current TV series concerned with crime. Singularly meaningful, jazz-based tone painting, paralleling action and emotions in a contemporary way, has appeared and taken hold. The music heard thus far has been generally impressive, and has stimulated and affected the average TV viewer to the point where conversation concerning these whodunnits is equally divided between the plots, characters and the music.
