ABSTRACT

Despite the narrow focus of most TV histories, TV shows do not exist in a void. There is a spillover into all kinds of other art forms (not to mention merchandising and ephemera), and this has been as true historically for action TV as for any other kind. Notwithstanding the spin-off novelizations and movies, the most fertile relationship in this regard has been with comic books. For in the pages of the so-called ‘funny books’, the action TV genre has made a perfect fit – albeit with a certain amount of tweaking to make sure it suited the predominantly juvenile readership.
