ABSTRACT
The northernmost country of Latin America, Mexico is the third most populous nation in the western hemisphere, with a population in 1992 of 88.1 million (only the United States and Brazil have a larger population). With a land area of some 1.9 million square kilometres (761,600 square miles), Mexico is the fifth largest country in the hemisphere.
