ABSTRACT

The blockbuster movie has typically been made up of several elements – a large budget, enhanced production values, star presence, large-scale story material, and display of technical virtuosity – not all of which may be present in any one instance. As arguably the best, or at least the most spectacular, that Hollywood can create, the blockbuster movie has offered an ideal platform for displaying new developments in technical and artistic expertise. This chapter hopes to examine the strategies by which the blockbuster film has periodically been used by Hollywood as an advertisement for newly developed technical processes.
