ABSTRACT

When the term ‘Languages for All’ is used in connection with Modern Languages, attention tends to focus on those students for whom learning a foreign language is observed, or expected, to be problematical. In fact, we can assume that all students will experience difficulty at some point, and that even gifted students will encounter setbacks and challenges which at first seem daunting. For the purposes of this chapter, however, the focus is on those students for whom success in foreign language learning is likely to be achieved only if the provision offered to them is appropriately planned and effectively handled.
