ABSTRACT

Lucy Mair's Main Argument (as expressed in RAINews 7,p. 4f.) sems to be that the word ‘ethnocide’ is often used in an excessively loose and emotive way. This is true; emotions do tend to be aroused in the face of gross and obvious injustice, especially when that injustice is perpetrated against such people as North American Indians or Bushmen (which examples she give) — people who have no effective means whatsoever of defending themselves or even of having their complaints heard.
