ABSTRACT

Incremental development suggests a growth by a different process from that which characterized the Metamorphic pattern. Rather than a picture of change, transformation, reorganization, and so on, one gets a picture of step-by-step cumulative development in which new elements are added to old to increase the total by a relatively more straightforward process of addition. The steady advance, the increase in capacities without fundamental change in underlying organization, these are the qualities which bespeak Incremental in contrast to Metamorphic development.
