ABSTRACT
Information on the social sciences within Eastern Europe, on either their development or their current state, is remarkably limited. Linguistic barriers, scarcity of documentary material, and the low rate of mobility of scholars between East and West are all contributory factors to this situation, although currently such barriers are being significantly reduced (through exchanges of research workers, for example).
