ABSTRACT

FROM the beginning of the nineteenth century until the outbreak of the World War the population of England and Wales increased by 1·25 per cent per annum. The rate of growth during this period was larger than for any other country in Europe. From mid-year 1914 until mid-year 1924 the average yearly increase was 0·47 per cent, and from mid-year 1924 to mid-year 1934 only 0·44 per cent.
