ABSTRACT
Witchcraft and sorcery in various forms appear to have existed from the dawn of human history, and throughout the ages the witch has been regarded as a figure of fear. Indeed to some extent witches embody human fears, and the concepts we have of them emphasise their frightening and unpleasant characteristics.
