ABSTRACT

The wave of immigration had begun, and author position as head of domestic affairs services in the Leipzig district enabled him to perceive the extent of the crisis that was upsetting his country. Meanwhile, the Stalinist apparatus has not been dismantled and clings to power, to its privileges, and to its positions. In 1975 these duties brought him to the Paris Embassy of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Police logic usually prevailed over common sense and political reason. The links between a few heads of the French Communist Party and German Communists like Hermann Axen were forged during the Resistance, when they fought together on French soil. Armin Riecker could have kept quiet and done like so many of his compatriots, taking his chances in the West. Despite a disappointing first experience, he intends to make known his point of view and his discoveries in his country.
