ABSTRACT

Although there is a reputable body of research on the long-term effects of childhood sexual abuse, there has been little study of the complex psychological sequelae of dual traumatization that reinforces patterns of disconnection for African Americans and other survivors of color. That is, the immediate and long-term effects of sexual trauma are well documented. In contrast, the trauma of institutionalized devaluation is less well studied. Similarly, there is little inquiry into work function issues as they affect abuse survivors.
