ABSTRACT

As a Chinese American woman clinical psychologist, I sometimes get referrals from other mental health professionals looking for a clinician who is bilingual or bicultural. A potential therapist's knowledge of Asian cultures and sensitivity to the communication styles of Asian Americans are often essential components for Asian and Asian American students who consider entering psychotherapy. Since much of my research and writing are about psychological issues of Asian American women, particularly in the areas of sexuality and identity, I was not surprised when Kaya was referred to me by a psychologist who had read some of my articles.
