ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the music director of the National Baptist Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress. Some years later, as a teenager, the author sat in awe as the beautiful music of the Youth Rally Choir rang through the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport. There was an inspiring pageant entitled "Youth at the Crossroads". Underneath all of this pageantry and consecration was the guiding hand of Lucie Campbell. In the annals of the National Baptist history, Lucie Campbell stands out as a dedicated servant of her people and church. Lucie Campbell's discipline and genius helped her to teach herself music. Miss Lucie began teaching in public schools in Memphis at the age of fourteen years. Campbells contributions within the Baptist church included her work with women's organizations, which usually got the pulpit only on Women's Day; through her talent as a musician and composer; and through her support of selected male leaders.
