ABSTRACT
The purposes of this paper are twofold. The first is to present a picture of the many faceted activities of New York Jewry in the Colonial period. This aspect of their history is usually neglected as historians concentrate on their economic and political achievements. The second purpose is to analyze the social history of the Jews in light of the current writings on the period.
