ABSTRACT
1. On November 5, 1937, as we now know from captured German files, Hitler informed his General Staff that he was prepared to go to war in order to secure Lebensraum for the Reich. The Führer’s preliminary plan in this new Nazi policy of expansion was to annex Austria and the Sudetenland, the two German-speaking regions contiguous to the Reich.
